2010 - Best Diner/Coffee Shop

Readers’ Pick:

Blueberry Hill

Multiple locations

Rating: +24 (from 52 votes)

The thrills of Blueberry Hill are obvious to the multitude of readers who choose it in this category often, and they are to us, too. Blueberry Hill is undeniably as American as apple pie — which they serve, by the way — and as a hand-crafted gourmet chicken and sweet potato bacon sausage waffle (whew!) or simple homemade liver and onions. Black Bear Diner comes in second.

Our Pick:

Peppermill

2985 Las Vegas Blvd. South

Rating: +19 (from 45 votes)

As for us, we love the Peppermill and take visiting friends and family there every chance we get. There’s the Scarlett-O’Hara-Meets-The-Jetsons decor, to start, but also massive omelets such as the Lorraine; gargantuan salads, such as fresh fruit served in a fresh pineapple boat; half-pound burgers and even steaks. We know one thing: We’ll never leave the Peppermill hungry.

Guest Pick:

Damian Brantley, Impersonator In “LEGENDS IN CONCERT”; Tiffany’s Cafe In White Cross Drugs

1700 Las Vegas Blvd. South

Rating: -1 (from 13 votes)

“When it comes to an authentic, old fashion-style diner, few can equal (Tiffany’s Cafe) in the White Cross,” says Damian Brantley, who moonwalks over to the retro eatery after portraying the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, in “Legends in Concert” at Harrah’s.

“I discovered the diner back in 1999. I had read somewhere that this particular diner was one of Bob Stupak’s favorite diners. I thought I’d give it a chance. I’ve been going religiously ever since.”

Beyond the un-froufrou food — which he describes as “unbelievable” — is an atmosphere that stubbornly worships at the shrine of old Vegas.

Yellowed snapshots of the town’s early glory days paper the walls, and the mishmash of artwork approaches bizarre.

“The setup of the diner is definitely a few years behind, to say the least,” Brantley says. “Old booths, old stools, old grills, and without a doubt an old-fashioned taste.”
