Ah, Roberto’s, it seemingly never fails that readers love it in this category. Would that be because there are Roberto’s outlets all over town, so they’re convenient to just about anybody in the valley? Because they’re open 24 hours, in case you get a late-night taco jones? Because tacos are street food, and this is a street-food kind of place? All of the above, plus solidly prepared tacos. Taco Bell rings in second.

Ah, Pepe’s! It’s so authentic, our gringo status comes roaring home to us every time we walk through the door. No matter, though, because the pointing and smiling is worth it for these crisp or soft tacos that we can fill with our choices from among 10 meats. We like that it’s open 24 hours, too, and that the Virgin of Guadalupe seems to be watching over us whenever we go in.
