Does Every Divorce Need a Divorce Attorney?

Couples do not get married to experience a divorce. In Las Vegas, getting married is about as easy as picking your next casino buffet. However, the divorce rate for men in Nevada was 12.3 compared with the national average of 9.2 per every 1,000 men. That's the seventh highest rate in the nation.

The divorce rate for women in Nevada was also 12.3, which is higher than the national rate of 9.7 percent. It was the sixth highest rate in the nation. Las Vegas is the entertainment, marriage and divorce capitals, so it should not come as a surprise that a divorce experience can be different in Las Vegas.

Not every divorce or legal separation needs a divorce attorney. Some divorces are small, and couples can file an uncontested divorce themselves. The criteria are usually a short-term marriage (something under five years), no shared assets, and no children from the marriage. Then a couple can file an uncontested divorce.

Many divorces are more complex, or too adversarial to handle without one or more divorce attorneys. Maybe a more important question to ask is whether to file a divorce or a legal separation?

A divorce may be the first encounter with an attorney. Some law firms charge by the minute, and for each fax, piece of paper and phone call made. Their bills look like a sushi menu, and often are far more than is anticipated.

In Las Vegas, there is a law firm that charges a “fixed fee” for a divorce, regardless of the amount of time the attorneys and their staff spend on the case. That firm is RIGHT Lawyers. They have been in practice since 2014 and have been voted “Best Divorce Attorney” the past two years by Best of Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Review-Journal readers.

“Several of the reasons we keep receiving this honor is how we help clients negotiate a divorce when possible,” begins Stacy Rocheleau, the founder of RIGHT Lawyers.

“We strive for a peaceful and smooth separation. Our focus is on customer service. We are also focused on the most favorable outcome, especially when children are involved. Our fixed fee aspect is also a true difference maker.”

Most attorneys charge hourly. Right Lawyers review the issue, decide on the legal strategy necessary and then present the client with the fixed fee option.

While a fixed fee divorce is not novel in the United States, is was a new concept when the law firm decided to move to this fee model. While calculated, the switch to a flat fee was not as easy as one would like. In a law practice there are two critical measurements; your ability to effectively represent your client and win, and the number of hours that can be billed to the customer.

The move to fixed fees makes it easier for the client as they know the cost up front and don’t need to worry about seeing an hourly bill each month. With fixed fees, the law firm can focus on best representation at the most effective and stable cost.

“We want to make sure people know that this is not a discount deal, we are just creating as positive experience as possible during difficult moments in time,” concluded Rocheleau.

RIGHT Lawyers is headquartered in Las Vegas, NV. The firm’s focused practice areas are divorce, legal separation, annulments, and child custody. Visit the RIGHT Lawyers website at www.rightlawyers.com to see great information on their different practice areas.
