Dizziness and balance problems are all too common among older adults and they can affect younger adults and children as well. FYZICAL Therapy and Balance Centers have created unique, custom-tailored programs to address these problems with residents in the Las Vegas area.

“Our goal is to help people regain the confidence they need to move safely in the community,” said Dr. James Mortensen, FYZICAL’s Regional Director of physical therapy at the company’s four locations in the Las Vegas area.

Dr. Mortensen says FYZICAL stands out because “no other clinic in the area really treats balance and dizziness issues the way FYZICAL does.”

First, Dr. Mortensen said, FYZICAL has specialized tools and treatments that other clinics do not readily have.

Second, FYZICAL utilizes an in-house Audiologist, who can identify vestibular impairments with its state-of-the-art diagnostic testing.

There are three ways a person maintains balance, Dr. Mortensen said. “It is achieved through one’s eyes, through their sense of touch, and through their inner ear. The vestibular system is an internal organ that helps maintain balance and equilibrium, and is often the problem when balance loss or dizziness is noted.

When the Audiologist works in concert with Physical Therapists, the team can then spearhead the patient’s rehabilitation in order to reduce dizziness and improve falls risk.

“Our goal is to prevent falls in the first place. We work to identify any challenges that might result in balance loss or dizziness, and address them with physical therapy,” Dr. Mortensen said. “Having a team approach is extremely beneficial to the patient, especially as falls are one of the leading causes of death in people older than 75.”

To combat this statistic, FYZICAL offers a “fantastic” program to identify balance problems and help prevent falls from happening through free balance screenings.

“Our clinics are doing free “basic” balance testing to bring awareness to dizziness and balance issues in the community,” Dr. Mortensen said.

The Fyzical sites in the greater Las Vegas area are located at 3820 S. Jones Blvd.; at 401 N. Buffalo Dr., Suite 120; or 9070 W. Cheyenne Ave., Suite 100. The Henderson location is at 9005 S. Pecos Road, Suite 2520 in Henderson.

New patients should call 702-818-5000 for more information.
