Is your air conditioner ready for spring? Top tips for prepping your air conditioner

This winter is one of the warmest on record in Las Vegas and we are soon entering the spring and summer seasons. With the summer of 2017 also being the hottest year on record, it’s important to make sure your home is prepared for the hot temperatures approaching. Is your air conditioner ready for spring and summer? Follow these top tips for preparing your air conditioner for the hot Las Vegas temperatures and you’ll be cool and comfortable all year round.

Replace Your Air Filters

Replacing your air filters in your air conditioning system is one of the easiest and most important parts of maintaining your cooling system. Dirty air filters limit fresh air intake and increase wear-and-tear, which can spike your energy bills and lead to air conditioning breakdowns. For best results, clean or replace your air filters once per month – this is especially important to do when we’re changing seasons and entering the spring and summer seasons.

Get Your Air Conditioning System Inspected By A Certified HVAC Technician

It’s critical that your air conditioning unit gets inspected before you need it in the summer, this will help to avoid a breakdown when it is really hot in Las Vegas. Schedule an air conditioning maintenance service in spring to ensure you’re kept cool and comfortable when you need it the most. Extended use of a damaged unit could cause further issues or result in higher energy bills, reduced comfort and hazardous conditions for you and your family. Don’t wait until the heat arrives, you can avoid the busy cooling season and ensure you don’t have an emergency breakdown. Contact a qualified HVAC technician who will be able to identify any existing problems with your equipment and help you determine what you can do to solve them.

Clean Debris Around Outdoor A/C Units

Inspect the area surrounding your air conditioning unit outside. You want to make sure there are no plants cover the A/C unit and make sure there are no objects directly next to or touching the air conditioning unit. Your air conditioning system will have to work harder if objects obstruct it. Many animals are known to be found in air conditioning unit areas that are not being maintained. This can damage your equipment so it’s very important to ensure you keep the area around your air conditioning unit clean.

Make sure to also remove any protective covering on your air conditioning system before you turn it on for the first time. You should turn your air conditioning system on before the heat arrives so you can identify any issues in-time.

Replace Outdated Air Conditioning Units

To get the maximum amount of energy savings each month you should make sure you have a newer energy efficient air conditioning system. If your air conditioning system is 10+ years old, it would help save you money in the long run if you replaced your A/C unit. Replacing an old, inefficient system with an Energy Star-rated model can save you about $200 per year on your utility bill, plus make your house far more comfortable.
